Self-Guided Research: Using the Research Library

Located within Harmon Hall, our History and Genealogy Research Library is a wonderful source for researching your family records or Warren County and Ohio history. We welcome visitors to the library with some restrictions.  Note:  You may only bring a pencil and a single piece of notepaper into the library.  Cell phones, laptops and tablets are allowed but not cases for the same.

For over 70 years volunteer librarians and archivists have recorded historical and genealogical information for the library. Included in our archives are materials on Shakers and Union Village, National Normal University, local churches, some court records, photos, atlases, cemetery records and local newspapers, birth,  marriage and death records.

**Note: If you are researching a PROPERTY in Warren County, please visit the Warren County Recorder's Office and the Warren County Records and Archives, www.co.warren.oh.us/recordscenter first. Compile a list of previous owners' names and bring it to the Warren County Historical Society’s research library for research. The WCHS research library does not contain property records.

Hours: The research library is open Tuesday - Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sundays, Mondays, and Holidays.

Location: 105 S. Broadway, Lebanon, OH 45036

Cost: Admission to the library is Adults $10, Students $6 (5 through 18 years old), and WCHS members are free. Purchase tickets here. This fee includes use of the library, microfilm readers, as well as admission to the museum. Copies can be made for 25 cents each. Photo scans are $6/scan or $10/print per 8×10 sheet: one 8×10, two 5×7 or two 4×6. A digital file can be emailed to you as part of the photo fee.

If doing your own research is not preferable or is not possible due to distance, etc., Warren County Historical Library staff is available to do research for you for a fee.

Research by WCHS

If doing your own research is not preferable or is not possible due to distance, etc., Warren County Historical Society staff are available to do research for you for a fee.

Please send us your request, via e-mail to wchs@wchsmuseum.org or by mail to WCHS, 105 S Broadway, Lebanon, OH 45036. 
For emails, include "RESEARCH" in the subject line. 
For all requests, please include the following:

1. What information you are interested in finding.
2. What pertinent information you already have - names, dates, etc.
3. How much time you would like the WCHS staff to spend researching (there is a one-hour minimum).
4. A daytime telephone number. 

Your request will be added to our research queue and a staff member will contact you with any questions.

Fees: Research fees are $15 per hour (one-hour minimum) and 25 cents per copy. Shipping charges will vary. Fees for photo reprints are $6/scan or $10/print per 8×10 sheet: one 8×10, two 5×7 or two 4×6. A digital file can be emailed to you as part of the photo fee. You will be billed once the research is complete.
