Today in History: 50 years ago, at 9:02am, Apollo 11 lifted off toward its mission to the moon. No one knew if it would be successful, and, if it was, if Aldrin and Armstrong would return from the moon's surface. Nixon even had two speeches drafted; one, if all went well and another if it did not...

"These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery but they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice..."
